* IFICI is a Portuguese personal tax regime designed to attract qualifying professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and highly skilled individuals working in eligible innovation-led activities. Subject to individual eligibility, it can provide a special 20% rate of Portuguese income tax on qualifying employment or self-employment income and potential exemptions for certain foreign-source income for ten consecutive years.
IFICI is separate from Portugal’s Golden Visa programme. Making an investment or obtaining a Golden Visa does not by itself establish eligibility for IFICI. Applicants must become Portuguese tax residents and satisfy the applicable professional, employment, company and registration requirements. Independent tax advice should always be obtained.
